Flying the Battle Ensign

10 05 2010

Flying the American flag and the “Battle Ensign,” a giant American Flag, in the Persian Gulf near the Al Basrah Oil Terminal,  after completing an UNREP.

After flying for a month, regular underway flag, the smaller American flag at the top of this photograph, came down and was replaced with a new one. IT was given to me by the Quartermaster, and it is currently in my parents house, tattered, worn, and stained from the Gulf… and it sits in a place of pride, a reminder of the hardships my Shipmates, their families, and our brothers and sisters in the military face when deployed overseas.

I couldn’t be more proud.
